EUROCONTROL will host the upcoming European CISM Conference organised by ENAIRE on 13 and 14 October 2022. The conference will provide the setting to understanding how Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) is crucial in managing fatigue and stress in ATM.

CISM is an important system of techniques, tactics and ways of thinking are key to ensure the well-being of people working in high-stress jobs, such as air traffic controllers. It helps controllers manage stress reactions and prevent psychological damage associated with unusual and stressful events, and maintain their ability to continue to carry out their primary function of separating aircraft and looking after aircraft safety in an effective and efficient manner, without detriment to their own psychological well-being.

As the last two years have shown us, unexpected stressors can catch the global CISM community by surprise. Throughout 2022, the aviation sector in Europe and worldwide continues to face new challenges. This conference will bring together European ATM organisations and other industries experts to discuss how best to build and adapt established ways of worked to best serve our communities.
